Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Ukraine Days Before New Peace Talks

Kyiv, Ukraine — November 7, 2026 — Russian missile and drone attacks struck targets across Ukraine on Saturday, damaging energy infrastructure, homes and businesses and leaving at least nine people wounded, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by The Associated Press.
The strikes came only days before Russia, Ukraine and the United States are scheduled to meet in Abu Dhabi for another round of talks aimed at ending the war.
The timing has added new tension to an already uncertain diplomatic effort.
Kyiv hit as energy infrastructure comes under attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones against Kyiv and 12 other regions.
Zelenskyy said only four of the ballistic missiles were intercepted, and that the attacks targeted critical infrastructure.
The claims could not be independently verified in full.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said the strikes damaged electricity networks connecting nuclear power plants with Kyiv and central regions, as well as several other energy facilities.
Power outages were reported across parts of Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk. Water and heating systems were also affected in the capital.
Kyiv officials closed the city’s Northern Bridge after the attack, while emergency and repair crews worked to restore damaged infrastructure.
Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that its forces targeted the bridge and several energy and industrial facilities, saying they were connected to Ukraine’s military infrastructure.
New talks planned for Abu Dhabi
The attacks came ahead of Tuesday’s planned meeting in Abu Dhabi between Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. negotiators.
The talks represent another attempt by Washington to break the deadlock in the war. However, major disagreements remain over territory, security guarantees and the future relationship between Ukraine and NATO.
The latest escalation could complicate those efforts.
Zelenskyy accused Moscow of using military pressure ahead of the negotiations and called for stronger international support for Ukraine.
Russia has continued to argue that its attacks are directed against military and infrastructure targets rather than civilians.
Civilian costs continue to mount
The latest strikes also come as Ukrainian authorities continue recovery operations after a devastating attack earlier this week in the southern village of Komyshuvakha.
The death toll there reached 55 after additional bodies were recovered, while dozens of people remained missing, according to emergency officials cited by AP.
The village was hit Monday while residents were waiting for humanitarian assistance at a former school and shelter.
The continuing attacks demonstrate the difficult environment facing negotiators as they prepare for the Abu Dhabi meeting.
For Ukraine, the immediate priority remains protecting its energy system and maintaining essential services as winter approaches. For Washington, Kyiv and Moscow, the talks will test whether diplomacy can make progress while military operations continue on the ground.
