Missing U.S. Flight Attendant Found Dead in Colombia After Disappearing During Layover

Authorities in Colombia have identified a body discovered in the country’s northeast as that of missing U.S. flight attendant Eric Fernando Gutiérrez Molina, according to family members and local officials.

The 32-year-old crew member, who worked for American Airlines, had been reported missing after disappearing during a layover in the city of Medellín last week. Gutiérrez Molina, originally from Texas, had been spending time with fellow airline colleagues when he vanished.

His sister, Mayra Gutiérrez, told media outlets that Colombian authorities confirmed to the family that his body was found on Friday in a northeastern region of the country.

The discovery came after several days of search efforts following his disappearance. Investigators have not yet publicly released details about the exact circumstances surrounding his death, and authorities are continuing to examine the case.

Officials in Colombia are reportedly working with U.S. authorities as part of the investigation. The death has drawn attention to safety concerns surrounding travelers visiting Medellín, a popular destination known for its vibrant culture and growing tourism industry.

In a statement, representatives of American Airlines expressed sadness over the loss of their colleague and extended condolences to his family and loved ones.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our team member and are supporting his family during this difficult time,” the airline said.

Family members and friends have been mourning the young flight attendant while awaiting further information from investigators. Authorities have indicated that the case remains under investigation as they work to determine what led to the tragic discovery.
