Tourism Revenue Also Continues to Grow
The increase in diaspora transfers comes alongside rising tourism revenues.
According to the same September figures, Morocco’s travel receipts reached approximately MAD 115.26 billion during the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 12.1% compared with the corresponding period last year.
Travel expenditure by Moroccans abroad reached MAD 26.96 billion, up 8%.
This resulted in a positive travel balance of approximately MAD 88.3 billion.
Together, remittances and tourism revenues remain important sources of foreign currency for Morocco.
Investment Inflows Record Strong Growth
The Office des Changes also reported an increase in net foreign direct investment flows, which reached approximately MAD 35.24 billion by the end of September 2026.
That represented growth of 58.4% compared with the same period in 2025.
Investment receipts increased while investment-related expenditure declined, contributing to the improvement in net flows.
The figures point to several important sources of external financial activity supporting Morocco’s economy, including diaspora transfers, tourism and foreign investment.
The Moroccan Diaspora’s Continuing Economic Role
Moroccans living abroad maintain strong family, social and economic ties with their country of origin. Their financial contributions support households while bringing foreign currency into the national economy.
The latest figures underline the scale of this relationship, with transfers exceeding MAD 100 billion before the end of the third quarter.
However, the September figures are provisional and cover only the first nine months of the year. The final total for 2026 will depend on transfers recorded during the remaining months and any subsequent statistical revisions.
For Morocco, the continued growth of remittances highlights the economic importance of its diaspora and the role it plays in supporting families and the wider national economy.
