Morocco Launches Comprehensive Relief Initiative for Flood-Stricken Communities in Northern and Western Regions

13 February 2026 – Rabat

In implementation of the High Royal Instructions, the government of Moroccohas launched a comprehensive assistance program to support populations affected by severe flooding in the northern and western regions of the Kingdom. The floods were triggered by exceptional rainfall recorded over the past two months, causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, farms, and small businesses.

According to a press release issued by the office of the Head of Government in Rabat, all concerned government departments have been mobilized to ensure the effective and timely implementation of the program. The initiative was developed following a careful on-the-ground assessment of the situation and the urgent needs of affected families.

Direct Financial Assistance for Families

As part of the emergency response, direct financial aid of up to MAD 6,000 will be granted to each affected family. In addition:

  • MAD 15,000 will be allocated for the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses.
  • MAD 140,000 will be provided for the reconstruction of homes that completely collapsed due to the floods.

The emergency financial aid for affected families will begin distribution next week. To streamline the process, heads of affected households are required to send a text message to 1212, indicating their electronic National Identity Card (CNIE) number and date of birth. Relevant services will then verify eligibility and process applications as swiftly as possible.

Transparent Assessment and Rehabilitation Process

Regarding assistance for housing rehabilitation, business recovery, and reconstruction of collapsed homes, specialized commissions will carry out detailed field surveys in areas officially declared disaster zones.

Where necessary, affected individuals may submit applications directly to these commissions for review. Authorities emphasized that all procedures will be conducted in accordance with regulatory measures in force, ensuring transparency, fairness, and equal access to support.

Agricultural Sector Support

Recognizing the significant impact of flooding on rural communities, the government is also introducing targeted support for farmers. A spring crop program tailored to the specific conditions of disaster-stricken regions will be launched. The program includes:

  • Support for oilseed, cereal, and fodder crop cultivation
  • Assistance with the purchase of seeds and fertilizers
  • Continued backing for livestock farmers affected by the floods

This initiative aims to accelerate agricultural recovery and safeguard livelihoods in rural areas heavily dependent on farming activities.

A Proactive and Coordinated Approach

The press release underscores that the program reflects the Royal High Care devoted to ensuring exemplary supervision and management of evacuation and displacement operations. Authorities have adopted a proactive approach, mobilizing logistical resources to safely relocate residents from high-risk zones and facilitate their return home as soon as conditions allow.

Through coordinated action and swift intervention, Morocco seeks to mitigate the social and economic consequences of the recent floods while reinforcing national solidarity with affected communities across the north and west of the Kingdom.
