DNIPRO, Ukraine — At least 14 people were killed and another 14 injured after a Russian drone struck a railway platform in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, according to reports published Friday.
The attack prompted strong reactions from European leaders and renewed concerns over the safety of civilians as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike and called for continued pressure on Moscow. European Council President António Costa described the attack as devastating and urged international partners to maintain support for Ukraine.
The Dnipro attack was part of a wider series of strikes. Ukrainian authorities also reported an attack on the capital, Kyiv, where missiles hit warehouse facilities and caused a fire.
Regional officials said another strike in Dnipro hit a student dormitory and disrupted electricity supplies to approximately 350,000 households.
The latest violence comes as diplomatic efforts and discussions over local ceasefires continue in parts of the country. However, the attacks underline how fragile the security situation remains.
The civilian toll has again raised questions about the protection of transport infrastructure and residential areas during the conflict.
