Rabat – April 2026
Morocco and Costa Rica have taken a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations by signing a new air transport agreement aimed at strengthening connectivity, boosting tourism, and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in Rabat by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arnoldo André Tinoco, during an official meeting focused on deepening diplomatic and economic ties.
The newly signed accord establishes a legal framework for air services between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Costa Rica. It is expected to facilitate the launch of direct or connecting flights, allowing airlines from both nations to expand routes and increase passenger and cargo traffic.
Officials from both countries highlighted that the agreement will contribute to strengthening people-to-people exchanges, promoting tourism, and encouraging greater trade and investment opportunities between North Africa and Central America.
Moroccan authorities view the deal as part of a broader strategy to expand the country’s international air network and reinforce its position as a regional aviation hub linking Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The agreement could also pave the way for future cooperation in civil aviation, including technical collaboration and regulatory alignment.
During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed ways to further develop diplomatic relations and explore new areas of partnership, including economic cooperation, sustainable development, and cultural exchanges.
The air transport agreement reflects the growing momentum in Morocco’s relations with Latin American countries, as the Kingdom continues to strengthen diplomatic outreach and expand its network of strategic partnerships across the region.
Officials believe the new aviation framework will open new travel opportunities for business leaders, tourists, and students while supporting long-term cooperation between Morocco and Costa Rica.
