Apart from sub-regional leaders, King Mohammed VI receives exclusive invitation to Senegal’s President-elect’s inauguration.

On Tuesday, in Diamniadio near Dakar, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, stood in representation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of Senegal’s president-elect, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Akhannouch’s visit to Senegal came at the behest of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The invitation extended by Senegal’s newly elected president to the Sovereign underscored the enduring bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and consideration between Morocco and Senegal.

Highlighting the unique relationship between the two nations, His Majesty King Mohammed VI was the sole Head of State, apart from sub-region leaders, to receive an invitation to the ceremony. This gesture further signifies the exceptional partnership between Morocco and Senegal across various spheres including political, economic, cultural, social, and spiritual domains.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several Heads of State and chairpersons of commissions from the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).

Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s victory in the March 24 presidential election marks a significant milestone for Senegal. Securing 54.28% of the vote in the first round, Faye emerged as Senegal’s fifth president since gaining independence in 1960, triumphing over opponent Amadou Ba, who garnered 35.79% of the vote.
