Mohamed Ouahbi Vows to Build on Morocco’s Success and Lead Atlas Lions to Greater Glory

The newly appointed head coach of the Morocco national football team, Mohamed Ouahbi, has pledged to build on the team’s recent achievements and guide the national side to even greater success in upcoming international competitions.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex near Salé, Ouahbi expressed strong determination to continue the progress made by Moroccan football in recent years.

“I am driven by a strong determination to continue the work already started in order to capitalize on the achievements and allow the Moroccan team to continue to shine,” Ouahbi said during his official presentation.

The new coach emphasized that Morocco possesses a strong foundation capable of competing with the best teams in the world, particularly with the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. He noted that the Atlas Lions have the talent and structure necessary to remain competitive on the global stage.

Ouahbi also highlighted the principles that will guide his squad selection, stressing that performance will be the main criterion. According to him, players will be chosen based on merit rather than their age or the league in which they compete.

“The most important thing is to select the most competitive elements in order to build a strong and balanced team,” he explained, adding that his commitment to leading the Moroccan national team goes beyond contractual obligations, describing it as “above all a moral commitment.”

During the event, Ouahbi introduced his first assistant, João Sacramento, noting that the rest of the coaching staff will be revealed at a later stage.

For his part, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, explained that the decision to appoint Ouahbi followed extensive consideration and strategic planning.

“We have favoured continuity,” Lekjaa said, adding that the growing confidence placed in Moroccan football professionals is beginning to produce positive results.

He also highlighted the important role played by the federation’s Technical Directorate in the development and achievements of Moroccan football, underlining its contribution to the national team’s recent successes and long-term progress.
