Morocco Steps Up Winter Preparedness with Enhanced Mobilization Efforts

Rabat, 16/12/2025

In response to the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has intensified its preparations for the 2025-2026 winter season, focusing on proactive measures to manage the potential impacts of severe weather disturbances. With coordination across government departments, local authorities, and emergency services, the country is preparing for a comprehensive approach to safeguard citizens from cold waves, snowstorms, and other weather-related hazards.

Under the directives of King Mohammed VI, Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior has mobilized regional governors and local Walis (regional officials) to monitor and respond to weather conditions closely. The aim is to mitigate the risks posed by extreme weather events, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations, particularly those in rural and remote areas, are supported effectively.

A newly established control center at the Ministry of the Interior will oversee operations, enabling real-time monitoring of weather data and streamlining coordination across the country. Additionally, local monitoring committees are being activated in all affected regions to assess the situation, prioritize interventions, and distribute aid as needed.

The national strategy emphasizes tailored, region-specific interventions that address local conditions and ensure efficient resource deployment. This includes the delivery of heating materials, blankets, and food aid, particularly to villages and isolated communities in 28 provinces and prefectures. As part of this initiative, provisions are being made to ensure the well-being of livestock, with fodder distribution efforts underway to prevent disruptions to rural economies.

Furthermore, local authorities are taking steps to ensure uninterrupted access to essential services. This includes the maintenance of roadways and communication lines, as well as swift responses to blocked routes or weather-impacted infrastructure. Proactive deployment of resources near vulnerable areas is aimed at clearing roads and preventing severe disruptions.

The Moroccan government is also urging citizens to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines, especially those in high-risk zones. Travel advisories have been issued, advising people to avoid routes and areas likely to be impacted by severe weather. In cases of emergency, the Ministry of the Interior has ensured that rapid-response teams will be deployed to assist those in need.

The mobilization plan also includes continued vigilance and community engagement. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, follow local authorities’ instructions, and take preventive measures to safeguard their homes and property.

Through these coordinated efforts, Morocco aims to protect its citizens from the challenges posed by the winter season while ensuring a swift and effective response to weather-related emergencies.
