Morocco Marks Historic Turning Point as King Mohammed VI Declares New Era for the Nation

Rabat, October 31, 2025 — In a speech that will be remembered as a defining moment in modern Moroccan history, His Majesty King Mohammed VI addressed the nation to celebrate a new chapter in Morocco’s journey toward unity, sovereignty, and peace. Delivered on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Green March and the 70th anniversary of independence, the King’s speech outlined Morocco’s vision for a prosperous, united future—stretching “from Tangier to Lagouira.”

The monarch opened his remarks by expressing gratitude to God for guiding Morocco through decades of perseverance and sacrifice. He emphasized that Morocco is now entering “a new chapter in consolidating the Moroccanness of the Sahara,” highlighting the international recognition of the Autonomy Initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to the long-standing regional dispute.

“This is a pivotal moment and a crucial turning point in the history of modern Morocco,” the King declared, noting that the recent UN Security Council resolution reaffirmed Morocco’s legitimate rights and the international community’s growing support. According to His Majesty, two-thirds of UN member states now back Morocco’s autonomy proposal—an endorsement that underscores the nation’s diplomatic progress and strategic leadership on the world stage.

The King also praised major global powers—including the United States, France, Britain, Russia, Spain, and the European Union—for their steadfast support and for encouraging economic partnerships in Morocco’s southern provinces. “Our southern provinces can now become a hub for development and stability, and a major economic center in the region, including the Sahel and the Sahara,” he said.

In a gesture that resonated deeply with citizens across the country, His Majesty extended a heartfelt appeal to Moroccans in the Tindouf camps, urging them to reunite with their families and take part in building their shared future under Morocco’s sovereignty. He emphasized equality for all citizens, affirming that “there is no difference between those returning from the Tindouf camps and their brothers and sisters within the homeland.”

The King’s message also carried a strong note of regional cooperation. He invited Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune to engage in “a sincere, brotherly dialogue” aimed at mending ties and rebuilding trust between the two nations. He reiterated his vision for reviving the Maghreb Union, calling for mutual respect, integration, and collaboration among its member states.

As Morocco continues to chart its course toward stability and development, King Mohammed VI paid tribute to the nation’s heroes—the Royal Armed Forces, security services, and all citizens who have stood firm in defending the nation’s unity and values. He concluded by honoring the legacy of his late father, King Hassan II, the architect of the Green March, and the countless martyrs who gave their lives for the homeland.

The address marked not just a reflection on Morocco’s achievements, but a declaration of confidence in its future—a united, forward-looking nation grounded in peace, progress, and unwavering national pride.
“God, the Homeland, the King.”
