Cairo – Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), has been elected as a top representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the FIFA Council, securing a landslide victory with 49 votes out of 52.
The election took place on Wednesday in Cairo during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of CAF, where Lekjaa outperformed a competitive field of candidates, including Egypt’s Hani Abou Rida, Niger’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, and Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi.
Additionally, Comorian candidate Kanizat Ibrahim was elected to the seat reserved for female representatives.
CAF representatives on the FIFA Council will serve until 2029, playing a crucial role in shaping international football governance. This extraordinary general assembly also saw the re-election of Patrice Motsepe as CAF president, reinforcing stability in African football leadership.
Lekjaa’s overwhelming victory highlights his strong influence within African football and Morocco’s growing presence on the global football stage.
