Dakhla – In a landmark move to enhance health sciences in Africa, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health has launched the African Academy of Health Sciences (AAHS). The announcement was made during a ceremonial event held on Saturday at the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health in Dakhla, according to a press release from the Foundation.
The AAHS, headquartered in Dakhla, is an ambitious initiative aimed at fostering South-South cooperation to secure African health sovereignty. By providing a platform for research, education, and collaboration tailored to the continent’s unique needs, the Academy seeks to advance scientific research and innovation in health sciences.
Central to its mission is the emphasis on excellence in health education. The AAHS offers specialized training programs that address Africa’s healthcare demands while building a foundation for knowledge-sharing and partnership among researchers and professionals.
The institution aims to establish a comprehensive network of African experts to develop strategies, undertake groundbreaking research projects, and share best practices. These efforts will position the AAHS as a critical hub for addressing the continent’s health challenges and bolstering its healthcare systems.
Strategic alliances play a pivotal role in the Academy’s vision. Collaborations with key institutions like the World Health Organization (WHO) and partnerships with pharmaceutical industry stakeholders reinforce its capacity to foster meaningful health cooperation across the continent.
Notably, the AAHS integrates technological advancements such as Big Data analytics to collect and analyze health statistics. This initiative supports its role as a non-profit African observatory, providing valuable insights and recommendations for Moroccan, African, and global public health authorities.
The Academy’s scope of action extends beyond human health, encompassing areas like veterinary medicine, food safety, environmental health, and challenges related to climate change, desertification, and water management.
Through initiatives like scientific conferences, symposia, and innovation-driven programs, the AAHS aspires to become a cornerstone of health development in Africa. By addressing public health priorities and supporting sustainable healthcare improvements, the Academy is poised to make a significant impact on the well-being of communities across the continent.
This groundbreaking endeavor underscores Morocco’s commitment to strengthening Africa’s scientific and health infrastructure, paving the way for a healthier and more resilient future for the continent.
