Rabat, May 27, 2024 – The Republic of Senegal has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, including over the Moroccan Sahara. This was reiterated by Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, during her official visit to Morocco.
In a joint communiqué issued following discussions in Rabat between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Yassine Fall, Senegal’s position was clearly articulated. Fall, on her inaugural visit to the kingdom as Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, expressed Senegal’s steadfast support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara, which is viewed as the only viable and realistic solution to the regional dispute.
Fall commended the United Nations for its role as the sole framework capable of achieving a practical, realistic, and enduring resolution to the Moroccan Sahara issue. Senegal’s commitment to this stance was underscored by its establishment of a consulate general in Dakhla on April 5, 2021, highlighting the depth of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
The opening of the consulate in Dakhla is emblematic of the solid alliance and active solidarity between Morocco and Senegal, which has remained strong over the years. This diplomatic move further cements Senegal’s role as a key supporter of Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed territory and reflects the broader cooperative ties that continue to flourish between the two countries.
