London – April 23, 2026 — Relations between the United Kingdom and Morocco continue to deepen as London reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the most credible path toward a peaceful resolution of the Moroccan Sahara issue.
During a meeting in London with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated the United Kingdom’s position supporting the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as “the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for peace in the Sahara.”
The statement follows ongoing diplomatic coordination between the two nations and builds on the outcomes of the Morocco–UK Strategic Dialogue held in Rabat on June 1, 2025. In their joint declaration, both sides emphasized the importance of advancing the political process under the auspices of the United Nations to reach a lasting and mutually acceptable solution.
The United Kingdom also stressed that it will continue supporting efforts to resolve the regional dispute through actions at bilateral, regional, and international levels, in line with its commitment to promoting stability and diplomacy.
Beyond the Sahara issue, Cooper highlighted the strength of the bilateral partnership between London and Rabat, describing it as highly valuable for the citizens of both countries. She noted that cooperation between the two nations continues to expand across several sectors, including economic development, trade, and international events.
Among the areas of growing collaboration is the preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. The global sporting event is expected to create new opportunities for partnership, investment, and cultural exchange between Morocco and the United Kingdom.
Observers say the reaffirmation of London’s support underscores the steady strengthening of Moroccan–British relations, reflecting a shared commitment to diplomacy, economic cooperation, and regional stability. 🤝🌍
