The film industry is mourning the loss of Moroccan-French actress Nadia Farès, who died after suffering cardiac arrest. She was 57.
Her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement to Agence France-Presse, expressing their deep grief over the loss of their mother.
“It is with immense sadness that we announce the death this Friday of Nadia Farès. France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother that we have just lost,” they said.
According to reports, the actress was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a private club in Paris last week. She was rushed to a hospital and placed in a medically induced coma while doctors attempted to stabilize her condition. Despite medical efforts, she later died following cardiac arrest.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, local reports say that no signs of foul play have been identified at this stage.
Farès built a respected career in both French and international cinema. She became widely known for her role as Judith Herault in the 2000 thriller The Crimson Rivers, a psychological crime film that gained international recognition.
She also appeared in films such as War and Storm Warning, demonstrating her ability to perform across different genres, from action to suspense.
In television, Farès reached a global audience through the political drama series Marseille, released in 2016 on Netflix.
Beyond acting, Farès had been preparing for a new chapter in her career. The actress was reportedly set to direct an action-comedy film later this year based on a screenplay she had written herself. The project was expected to begin production in September, making her sudden death even more tragic for colleagues and fans who had looked forward to her next creative step.
Farès is survived by her ex-husband, Steve Chasman, and their two daughters.
Tributes have begun pouring in from actors, filmmakers, and fans who remember her not only for her talent but also for her strong presence on screen and dedication to her craft. For many in the film world, the loss of Nadia Farès marks the passing of a performer whose work left a lasting impression on international cinema.
