Rabat – In a joint statement released Monday in Rabat, the Republic of Kenya endorsed Morocco’s autonomy plan as the only sustainable and credible solution to the Sahara issue. The announcement followed a high-level meeting between Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, and Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
Kenya expressed its intention to collaborate with other like-minded nations to support the autonomy initiative, emphasizing the importance of the growing international backing for the proposal, which it said has gained momentum under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The joint statement also highlighted both countries’ commitment to the United Nations-led political process, reaffirming support for UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2756 (2024). Kenya commended Morocco’s continued engagement with the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in efforts to advance a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict.
