Rabat, January 31, 2025 (MAP) — The Republic of Yemen has reaffirmed its steadfast and historical position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Moroccanness of the Sahara. This declaration was made during the 6th session of the Morocco-Yemen Joint Cooperation Commission, held on Friday in Rabat.
Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani, emphasized Yemen’s unwavering stance, praising Morocco’s efforts to achieve a realistic and consensual political solution to the Sahara issue. He highlighted that these efforts are aligned with the relevant resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council, reflecting Morocco’s commitment to international legitimacy.
Al-Zindani also lauded the growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as a serious, credible, and practical framework to resolve the artificial regional conflict. He stressed that this plan serves as the cornerstone for a lasting solution, garnering significant global backing.
Furthermore, the Yemeni minister commended Morocco’s initiatives to promote economic and social development in the Moroccan Sahara. He highlighted the transformative impact of the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched in 2015 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. According to Al-Zindani, this strategic plan has spurred unprecedented growth and modernization, significantly improving the living conditions and economic prospects of the region’s inhabitants.
This reaffirmation of Yemen’s support comes as both nations continue to strengthen their bilateral ties, reinforcing a partnership rooted in mutual respect and shared regional interests.
