Mohammed V Hospital Puts Full Emergency Measures in Place After Floods in Safi

Safi, 15/12/2025 (MAP) – Mohammed V Hospital in Safi has activated its emergency response system to treat people injured following the sudden torrential rains that struck the province on Sunday, according to the hospital’s director, Khalid Iazza.

Speaking to MAP, Iazza said the emergency protocol led to the immediate mobilization of doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, alongside the deployment of all required human and logistical resources. He noted that 50 hospital beds were initially set aside to receive patients, with the possibility of expanding capacity to other departments if the situation required.

The director stressed that the hospital is fully equipped to handle emergency cases, highlighting the availability of essential medical equipment such as a CT scanner, radiology and ultrasound units, laboratory testing facilities, as well as sufficient bedding and other logistical supplies.

“There has been no shortage in emergency resources or services,” Iazza assured.

As part of the response, the hospital recalled additional medical personnel, including five emergency physicians, two anesthesiologists, an orthopedic surgeon, and a neurosurgeon, to reinforce the care teams.

By 6 p.m. on Sunday, emergency services had treated 61 patients. Two of them were admitted to intensive care, while 18 others suffering from severe hypothermia required hospitalization. The director confirmed that all patients remain in stable condition.

Iazza added that the patients examined earlier in the day were generally in good health. Thirteen individuals were discharged after receiving treatment, while five continue to be monitored. The two patients in intensive care are stable and are expected to leave the unit later tonight or tomorrow.

“The situation is fully under control,” he concluded, attributing the effective management of cases to the hospital’s preparedness and swift mobilization, which ensured the delivery of all necessary medical care to those affected.
