Burkina Faso reiterated its steadfast and unequivocal support for Morocco’s territorial integrity on Tuesday, hailing the UN Security Council’s historic Resolution 2797, which formally recognizes the Kingdom’s autonomy plan as a credible, serious, and enduring framework for resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue within the scope of Moroccan sovereignty.
During discussions with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, Burkinabe Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré emphasized that the autonomy initiative proposed by Rabat remains the sole realistic and viable path toward a lasting settlement. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Conference on African Victims of Terrorism, held in Rabat from December 2 to 3.
Traoré also highlighted Burkina Faso’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, recalling the opening of its Consulate General in Dakhla on October 23, 2020, as a concrete manifestation of its support.
For his part, Minister Bourita expressed Morocco’s deep appreciation for Burkina Faso’s consistent and principled position, reaffirming the strong partnership between the two nations.
