In a new milestone for bilateral cooperation, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, is on a working visit to Paris at the invitation of France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, as part of the Enhanced Exceptional Partnership between the two nations.
The visit, which comes in the wake of the Declaration signed in Rabat on October 28, 2024, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, aims to assess and accelerate the implementation of joint initiatives under this strategic partnership, reflecting the strong personal commitment of both heads of state.
In a joint communiqué issued following the high-level talks, France reaffirmed its “unchangeable” and long-standing position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, reiterating the message conveyed by President Macron in his July 30, 2024, letter to HM King Mohammed VI.
“For France, the present and future of Western Sahara lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty,” the French Foreign Ministry stated, underlining the “immutability” of France’s position and its determination to act in alignment with this stance both nationally and internationally.
Minister Jean-Noël Barrot also reiterated France’s clear and consistent support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as “the only framework through which a political solution to the conflict can be achieved.” He emphasized the growing international consensus backing Morocco’s initiative and noted France’s intention to play an active role in supporting it.
In addition, the communiqué highlighted France’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s socio-economic development efforts in the southern provinces, citing past and ongoing projects, and reaffirming its readiness to contribute further to this dynamic process.
This visit marks a significant step forward in Franco-Moroccan relations, built on mutual trust, shared values, and an increasingly aligned vision for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
