Royal Office Hails National Unity and Africa’s Triumph Following AFCON 2025–2026

Rabat, 22 January 2026 (MAP) – The Royal Office issued the following statement:

Following the 35th African Cup of Nations, hosted with remarkable enthusiasm by the Kingdom of Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, wishes to express His profound appreciation to all components of the Nation whose collective efforts ensured the outstanding success of this major continental event.

His Majesty the King extends His warm congratulations to citizens across the Kingdom’s cities and regions, commending their dedication and civic spirit, and thanking each and every one for their meaningful contribution to this historic achievement, which has garnered widespread international recognition and acclaim.

The Sovereign also conveys His congratulations to the millions of Moroccan women, men, and children who, in an exemplary manner and each in their own way, offered unwavering support to the national team, now ranked among the world’s top eight. This remarkable performance is the result of a proactive, high-level sports and infrastructure policy, as well as the patriotic choice made by talented young Moroccans from the diaspora to don the national jersey and defend its colors with pride and determination.

This edition of the African Cup of Nations will remain a landmark event, as beyond its sporting results, it served as a testament to the Kingdom’s significant strides on the path of development and progress. It reflects the fruit of a long-term vision and a distinctive, effective Moroccan model that places the citizen at the heart of all ambitions.

While this major continental football celebration was regrettably overshadowed by unfortunate incidents during the final moments of the match between the national teams of Morocco and Senegal, marked by unacceptable behavior, it remains certain that once emotions subside, the spirit of inter-African fraternity will prevail. This Moroccan success is also an African success. Morocco is proud to have hosted, on its soil, a month of shared joy and sporting emotion, and to have contributed to the promotion of Africa and its football.

Moreover, in the face of persistent denigration and attempts at discredit, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, remains firmly convinced that hostile schemes will never achieve their aims. The Moroccan people, with their wisdom and sense of balance, will not be drawn into resentment or division. Nothing will undermine the bonds forged over centuries among African peoples, nor the fruitful cooperation built hand in hand with countries across the Continent, strengthened by increasingly ambitious partnerships.

The Kingdom of Morocco is, and shall remain, a great African nation, faithful to the values of brotherhood, solidarity, and constant mutual respect toward its Continent.

In line with the Sovereign’s enlightened Vision, Morocco will continue its resolute and steadfast commitment to a united and prosperous Africa, notably through the exchange of experiences, expertise, and knowledge.
