Rabat, 02/12/2025 — Niger has applauded the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797, a milestone text that endorses Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and enduring framework for resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
The declaration came from Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, following his meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. The bilateral talks took place on the sidelines of the Conference on African Victims of Terrorism, held in Rabat on December 2–3.
Minister Sangaré emphasized Niger’s support for Morocco’s efforts and highlighted the significance of Resolution 2797 as a turning point in advancing a peaceful and definitive settlement to the long-standing regional question.
