King Mohammed VI Launches Broad Consultation on Updating the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative

Rabat, November 10, 2025 — By order of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, a high-level meeting was held on Monday at the Royal Office in Rabat to advance discussions on the detailed formulation of Morocco’s autonomy initiative within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty.

The meeting, chaired by the Sovereign’s Advisors — Talb Fassi Fihri, Omar Azziman, and Fouad Ali El Himma — brought together leaders of national political parties represented in both Houses of Parliament, as well as the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

In accordance with the Very High Instructions of His Majesty, the session focused on updating and refining the autonomy plan following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, and in line with the directives outlined in the Royal Speech of October 31, 2025.

The initiative reflects the King’s unwavering commitment to participatory governance and inclusive national dialogue in addressing Morocco’s key national issues. During the meeting, His Majesty’s Advisors conveyed the Monarch’s intention to involve political parties in shaping the updated version of the autonomy proposal and invited them to submit their respective visions and recommendations.

Political leaders present at the meeting welcomed the positive progress achieved regarding the Moroccan Sahara question. They expressed their pride in the Royal Decision to involve national political forces and institutions in designing an integrated and modernized framework for the autonomy initiative — one that guarantees the reintegration of Moroccan citizens from the Tindouf camps, strengthens local governance, and promotes unity under Moroccan sovereignty.

Party leaders also reiterated their full support for His Majesty’s leadership and for Morocco’s consistent efforts to consolidate its legitimate rights over the Sahara. They hailed the recent UN Security Council resolution, which reaffirms the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a credible, realistic, and durable basis for resolving the regional dispute in accordance with Morocco’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity.

Responding to the Royal invitation, political parties committed to submitting detailed memoranda outlining their proposals and visions to His Majesty King Mohammed VI in the near future.
