Cambodia Reaffirms Strong Support for Moroccan Autonomy Plan and Territorial Integrity

Rabat, October 21, 2025

In a significant diplomatic gesture, the Kingdom of Cambodia has reaffirmed its firm support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reinforcing growing international backing for Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue.

This support was officially expressed in a Joint Communiqué following a videoconference meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn.

The Cambodian official emphasized his country’s full endorsement of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, first presented in 2007, describing it as a serious, credible, and realistic basis for resolving the regional dispute. Praising Morocco’s sustained efforts to achieve a negotiated political solution, Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial unity.

“Cambodia commends Morocco’s approach and the substantial progress made under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” the communiqué noted. The statement also underscored Cambodia’s alignment with the ongoing efforts of the United Nations, particularly those of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, in advancing a resolution to the Sahara issue consistent with UN Security Council parameters.

Beyond the Sahara matter, both ministers stressed the shared commitment of Morocco and Cambodia to peace, security, and regional stability. Notably, they voiced strong opposition to separatist agendas, which they condemned as threats to national sovereignty and global stability.

“The ministers emphasized that separatist movements pose dangers equivalent to those of terrorism and extremism,” the statement added, highlighting a growing international consensus recognizing the destabilizing links between separatist entities and terrorist networks across various regions.

Cambodia’s clear and public stance strengthens the Kingdom’s diplomatic momentum, adding to the broad and increasing international support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the most viable and realistic path toward resolving the long-standing regional dispute over the Sahara.

This declaration from an influential Southeast Asian nation reinforces the global trend of recognizing and supporting Morocco’s legitimate rights and vision for the future of its southern provinces.
