Rabat/Lilongwe, October 20, 2025 — The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Malawi reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation during a high-level telephone conversation on Friday between Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and newly appointed Malawian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. George Thapatula Chaponda.
The discussion served as a reaffirmation of the positive momentum that has characterized Morocco-Malawi relations since 2017. Both ministers acknowledged the significant strides made in recent years, noting a shared resolve to enhance collaboration across key sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, mining, trade, and public finance — priority areas identified by H.E. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi.
Bourita and Chaponda also highlighted the spirit of mutual respect and high regard that exists between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Mutharika. They praised the deep-rooted ties of brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity that continue to unite their nations.
This renewed diplomatic engagement follows the re-election of President Mutharika and the appointment of Dr. Chaponda to head Malawian diplomacy. The ministers expressed mutual satisfaction with the current quality of bilateral relations and pledged to expand cooperation further.
A significant outcome of the conversation was the announcement of an upcoming signing of a new Roadmap of Cooperation. This strategic framework is intended to bolster the already growing partnership and to institutionalize mechanisms for coordination and mutual support in regional and international forums.
The renewed commitment underscores both nations’ aspirations to transform diplomatic goodwill into concrete results that benefit their peoples and contribute to regional integration and prosperity.
