Stillwater, Oklahoma — A shooting at an Oklahoma State University (OSU) residence hall late Friday night left multiple people injured, prompting a massive law enforcement response and sending shockwaves through the campus community.
According to university officials, the incident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. inside Parker Hall, one of the university’s student housing facilities. Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Students were immediately urged to shelter in place as officers secured the area and conducted a room-to-room search.
Authorities have confirmed that several individuals were shot, though the exact number of victims and their conditions have not yet been released. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as students barricaded themselves in rooms and hallways while alarms blared across the dormitory.
“I heard at least five gunshots and people started screaming,” said one student who lives in the building. “We hid in our bathroom until the police came. It was terrifying.”
The Stillwater Police Department and OSU Campus Police are jointly investigating the shooting, and a suspect was reportedly taken into custody early Saturday morning. Officials have not yet disclosed a motive, but said there is no ongoing threat to the campus.
University President Kayse Shrum issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and urging unity in the face of tragedy. “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. We are doing everything possible to support our students and community.”
Counseling services have been made available to students and staff, and campus operations are expected to remain limited through the weekend as investigators continue their work.
This marks one of the most serious campus incidents in Oklahoma State University’s history, leaving the tight-knit community mourning and searching for answers in the aftermath of a night that changed everything.
