Casablanca, 24/09/2025 (MAP) – His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, inaugurated on Wednesday in the Hay Hassani district of Casablanca several large-scale railway projects worth MAD 20 billion, designed to revolutionize mobility across the metropolitan area.
These ambitious initiatives are part of a broader program with a total budget of MAD 96 billion, launched to strengthen Morocco’s railway sector. Following the April launch of the Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line (430 km), the program now focuses on regional connectivity, urban mobility in major cities, and building a robust national railway industry ecosystem.
At the heart of this vision lies Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development, with special emphasis on low-carbon collective transport solutions that meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.
New-Generation Stations and Expanded Network
The projects include three cutting-edge stations—Casablanca-South, the Hassan II Grand Stadium station in Benslimane, and a new Mohammed V International Airport station—together capable of handling over 29 million passengers annually.
His Majesty officially launched construction of the Casablanca-South Station, a strategic intermodal hub with six platforms, 10 tracks, and a capacity for 12 million passengers per year. Equipped with advanced technologies and designed to integrate seamlessly with trams, buses, and taxis, it will also feature 20,000 m² of outdoor facilities and parking for 700 vehicles.
Alongside, 10 new metropolitan commuter train stations and the modernization of five existing ones are planned. By 2030, three commuter lines covering 92 km will offer trains every 7.5 minutes, transporting up to 150,000 passengers daily and linking key hubs such as the Hassan II Stadium and Mohammed V Airport.
Investment in Infrastructure and Rolling Stock
The integrated program also entails:
- 260 km of new railway lines
- 50 civil engineering structures
- Two technical centers (Zenata and Nouaceur)
- Five maintenance workshops
- Acquisition of 48 state-of-the-art trains for regional and local services
South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Rotem has been selected to supply these trains and will establish a manufacturing facility in Morocco, boosting the national railway ecosystem and opening opportunities for exports.
Toward a Sustainable and Connected Future
Beyond infrastructure, the program aims to enhance socio-economic development, improve daily mobility, and reinforce Morocco’s 2030 national objectives. The new express services—such as the airport shuttle every 15 minutes and regional trains to El Jadida and Settat every 30 minutes—promise to ease urban congestion and foster greener travel.
By integrating comfort, accessibility, and environmental responsibility, these railway projects are expected to generate lasting benefits in job creation, safety, and urban planning, while positioning Casablanca as a model for modern mobility in Africa.
