Washington, September 10, 2025 — Former President Donald Trump weighed in on rising tensions in Eastern Europe on Tuesday, warning of the dangers posed by Russia after reports that Polish forces clashed with drones along the country’s eastern border.
In a post to his social media platform, Trump described the incident as “a very serious and dangerous development,” accusing Russia of testing NATO’s resolve. “What happened in Poland should alarm everyone. If we don’t get tough, Russia will keep pushing until it’s too late,” Trump wrote.
Polish authorities said air defense units intercepted multiple drones overnight near the border with Belarus, some of which were believed to have originated from Russian or Russian-backed positions. The clash is the latest in a string of tense encounters that have raised fears of escalation between Moscow and NATO member states.
Trump’s comments come amid renewed debate in Washington over U.S. commitments to NATO and the scope of military aid to Ukraine. While the Biden administration condemned the drone activity and pledged support for Poland, Trump’s remarks went further, urging “immediate and decisive” measures to deter Moscow.
“This is not just about Ukraine anymore,” Trump added in his post. “It’s about NATO security, it’s about America’s security, and it’s about whether we have the strength to stop evil before it spreads.”
European officials have urged caution, with some warning against inflamed rhetoric while investigations into the drone incident continue. Still, Trump’s statement underscores how developments in Eastern Europe are rippling into U.S. politics, where foreign policy and national security remain key election issues heading into 2026.
