EU’s New Envoy Dimiter Tzantchev Officially Assumes Post in Morocco

Rabat, September 8, 2025 — Dimiter Tzantchev, the newly appointed Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, formally assumed his duties on Monday by presenting his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

During the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat, Ambassador Tzantchev reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to deepening its longstanding partnership with Morocco. He highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in trade, green energy, migration management, and regional stability.

Minister Bourita welcomed the new ambassador, underlining the strength of EU-Morocco ties and expressing Morocco’s readiness to work closely with Tzantchev to advance shared priorities. “Our partnership with the European Union has always been a pillar of Morocco’s international engagement, and we look forward to reinforcing this cooperation in new and innovative ways,” Bourita said.

Tzantchev, a seasoned diplomat who previously represented the EU in various international forums, succeeds Patricia Llombart Cussac in Rabat. His appointment comes at a time when the EU and Morocco are seeking to expand collaboration on climate transition, economic resilience, and security challenges across the Mediterranean and Africa.

Observers see Tzantchev’s arrival as an opportunity to give fresh momentum to a relationship that both sides describe as “strategic and multidimensional,” built on decades of political dialogue and growing economic interdependence.
