Rabat, February 26, 2025 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled in favor of Morocco’s Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RS Berkane) in its legal battle against Algeria’s USM Algiers over the results of the 2023-2024 CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals. The decision confirms Berkane’s victory and upholds the match results, dismissing USM Algiers’ appeal to annul them.
In its verdict, the CAS stated that all matches played by RS Berkane in the tournament, including the two-legged final against Egypt’s Zamalek, remain valid and unaffected. This ruling effectively ends the dispute and solidifies Berkane’s position in the tournament’s official standings.
Following the announcement, RS Berkane expressed satisfaction with the decision. In an official statement, the Moroccan club declared: “We have received, this Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the CAS ruling regarding our semi-final match against USM Algiers. The decision firmly rejects the Algerian club’s request to overturn the results and impose sanctions on RS Berkane.”
The ruling comes as a relief for RS Berkane and its supporters, ensuring that their campaign in the 2023-2024 CAF Confederation Cup remains intact. The club’s successful run led them to the final against Zamalek, where they competed for continental glory.
With the CAS verdict now confirmed, RS Berkane can fully celebrate its achievements, marking another milestone in the club’s history in African football.
