Belgian boxing witnessed a historic night as Moroccan-born fighter Abdeladim Mis delivered a spectacular performance, defeating Argentina’s Luis Ernesto Rueda by technical knockout (TKO) in the third round to claim the WBF Intercontinental Super Welterweight Title.
The fight began with a strategic approach from Abdeladim, who took his time in the first round, carefully studying Rueda’s movements. However, the second round saw a shift in momentum as Abdeladim unleashed his power, knocking Rueda down for the first time.
By the third round, the Moroccan fighter’s dominance was undeniable. He delivered back-to-back knockdowns, leaving Rueda unable to continue. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight, declaring Abdeladim Mis the new WBF Intercontinental Champion.
Abdeladim’s Emotional Victory Speech: “I Am Belgian by Belonging and Integration”
After his triumph, Abdeladim took the microphone to express his gratitude and reflect on his journey. He thanked the Belgian Boxing Federation, event organizers, and the enthusiastic crowd, while sharing his personal connection to Belgium:
“I left my home country searching for treatment after a shoulder injury, but I found myself living in Belgium for seven years, spending the most important years of my youth here. I feel Belgian by belonging and integration, which is why I insisted on having this fight in Belgium despite my German team’s plans.”
He also opened up about his difficult past, revealing that before becoming a professional boxer, he experienced homelessness, relying on charity organizations for shelter.
“Today, my German team covers all my expenses, but my legal status remains a major obstacle to my future.”
A Fighter Backed by the People
The atmosphere in La Garenne Arena was electrifying, as the audience rallied behind Abdeladim, celebrating his victory and resilience. Fans praised his determination, urging him to keep pushing forward despite his struggles.
Legal Struggles Threatening His Career
While Abdeladim’s career is on an upward trajectory, his legal status in Belgium remains uncertain. He revealed that his residency request was rejected without justification after a year-long process, despite being a registered professional fighter under the Belgian Boxing Federation.
“They tell me I can train with my coach remotely, but can a boxer train online?!”
He has appealed the decision but has yet to receive a response, leaving him in a state of uncertainty and stress, which threatens his future in professional boxing.
Postponing the World Title Fight Due to Psychological Pressure
Surprisingly, Abdeladim announced that he has requested to postpone his world title fight, citing the emotional toll of his legal struggles.
“I cannot properly prepare for a world championship while dealing with these conditions. I hope my message reaches those with the power to intervene and end my suffering. I have never seen my family or my son, and that is beyond unbearable.”
“I Am Not Seeking Aid—All I Want Is My Right”
Abdeladim made it clear that his only request is legal stability, not financial assistance:
“I am here to achieve my dream, not to receive financial aid. All I ask for is the chance to live legally so I can focus on my career.”
Gratitude to His Team and Supporters
To conclude, Abdeladim expressed his appreciation for those who helped make this fight possible:
• The World Boxing Federation (WBF) and its CEO, Chris Rösen
• His coach Henry Villegas
• His managers Sonay Olmaz and Cumhur Turgut
• The German Boxing Federation, which granted and renewed his professional boxing license
“They say I am a world champion in the making, and that reflects the challenges I have overcome to reach this level.”
A Career Defined by Grit and Glory
This latest victory isn’t Abdeladim’s first international success. In October 2024, he won the WBF International Title, earning both “Fight of the Night” and “Best Knockout” awards.
Now, with the WBF Intercontinental Title in his hands, he is one step closer to global recognition.
The Big Question: Will He Overcome His Legal Hurdles?
Despite his achievements, Abdeladim’s professional future remains uncertain due to his residency struggles in Belgium.
Will he be able to resolve his legal situation and continue his journey toward world championship glory?
Only time will tell.
