Laâyoune – In a significant reaffirmation of diplomatic ties, the Republic of Zambia has reiterated its steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara region. This declaration was made by Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, during his visit to Laâyoune on Friday.
The reaffirmation came through a joint communiqué signed during the 1st Session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Zambia. The session was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Zambian counterpart.
Haimbe lauded the growing international consensus and the dynamic diplomatic efforts spearheaded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. These efforts, he noted, have bolstered support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, widely regarded as the only credible, serious, and realistic framework for resolving the regional dispute over the Sahara.
The Zambian minister emphasized his country’s unwavering backing of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, highlighting its practicality and viability as a solution. Additionally, he praised the role of the United Nations in facilitating a realistic, practical, and lasting resolution to the Sahara issue, asserting its position as the exclusive framework for achieving this objective.
This development underscores Zambia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Morocco and its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The joint session marks a new chapter in Morocco-Zambia cooperation, furthering shared goals and mutual respect on the international stage.
