Speaking at the House of Representatives, Braun-Pivet addressed attendees of the closing seminar for the Morocco-European Union institutional twinning program.
Highlighting the enduring historical, cultural, and strategic relationship between France and Morocco, Braun-Pivet emphasized her country’s steadfast commitment to backing Morocco as it tackles key challenges, particularly the issue of the Sahara. “France’s position is clear: the present and future of the Sahara lie within Moroccan sovereignty,” she asserted, reaffirming France’s stance on this matter of international significance.
The President of the National Assembly also praised Morocco’s efforts in driving development across the Sahara region, stating that the French National Assembly is eager to contribute to these efforts. She emphasized the importance of engaging French businesses and operators in fostering economic growth and social advancement in the region.
In an announcement that underscores France’s proactive support, Braun-Pivet revealed plans for a parliamentary mission to the Moroccan Sahara. This mission aims to explore new avenues for economic and cultural partnerships, particularly those that can directly benefit local communities. “This mission will serve as a bridge to foster greater collaboration and development,” she explained, signaling a new chapter in the Franco-Moroccan partnership.
The seminar also provided an opportunity for Braun-Pivet to commend Morocco’s leadership in regional stability and development. She highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and fostering cooperation within the Maghreb and beyond.
The reaffirmation of France’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity aligns with the broader consensus within the European Union regarding the Sahara issue. France’s stance further strengthens the Kingdom’s position in addressing this long-standing territorial matter, which has garnered increasing international attention.
As Morocco continues to advocate for its sovereignty over the Sahara, the growing support from allies such as France highlights the importance of strategic diplomacy and the Kingdom’s role on the global stage. The planned parliamentary mission is anticipated to pave the way for deeper economic and cultural ties between France and the Moroccan Sahara, fostering a future of shared growth and prosperity.
