Lyon – Speakers gathered in Lyon, in an event organized by the Consulate General of Morocco in this French city, to underscore the development surge occurring in Morocco’s Southern Provinces under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The conference, held Wednesday to mark the 49th anniversary of the glorious Green March, was themed “Southern Provinces of Morocco: Potential and Investment Opportunities.” It was attended by the Consul General of Morocco in Lyon, Fatima Baroudi, along with several French figures and members of the Moroccan diaspora. The event provided an opportunity to highlight the substantial achievements made under the leadership of the Sovereign at the national level, particularly in Morocco’s Sahara region.
Throughout the conference, various speakers emphasized the comprehensive development projects launched across the Kingdom, fueled by the King’s visionary approach. This has sparked a sustained and renewed drive for development, progress, and prosperity in the Southern Provinces.
Thanks to this vision, they noted, the Southern Provinces have become a hub for development and prosperity and are now a key destination for major structural projects and investments, positioning them as a gateway to the African continent and a bridge between Europe and Africa.
The French and diaspora business operators in attendance expressed keen interest in the presentations and signaled their willingness to support Morocco in its development and progress, particularly in the Southern Provinces.
Henri Louis Vedie, an emeritus professor at HEC-Paris, focused his talk on the development efforts in these provinces, from the organization of the Green March by the late King Hassan II to the present day, emphasizing the New Development Model initiated by King Mohammed VI.
A seasoned expert in Moroccan economics, Mr. Vedie highlighted the reform projects that have turned the region into a hub for competitiveness in the agricultural and maritime sectors, along with its vast tourism potential.
In his presentation, management consultant Mr. Tariq Essaid outlined the provisions of the Investment Charter, emphasizing the creation of mechanisms to support investment, enhance the business environment, and promote unified and decentralized governance.
Representing the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Nabil Ameziane reviewed the practical investment procedures in the Southern Provinces, particularly through the establishment of one-stop investment centers, like the one in Dakhla, to better support investors.
The audience then viewed two documentaries: one capturing the significant moments of the glorious Green March, and the other showcasing the wealth and diverse investment opportunities offered by the Dakhla region.
Following the screenings, economic operators who have chosen to invest in the Southern Provinces shared their success stories, highlighting the region’s business-friendly and supportive environment.
