Luxembourg, 14/10/2024 (MAP) – The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, reaffirmed on Monday the “immense value” that the EU places on its strategic partnership with Morocco. Speaking during a press conference in Luxembourg, following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Borrell emphasized the EU’s strong desire to deepen its multifaceted cooperation with the North African nation.
“The 27 member states are committed to strengthening the long-term, dense, and in-depth partnership between Morocco and the EU,” Borrell said. He praised the friendly relations that have been cultivated over the years and expressed the EU’s intent to further enhance this collaboration in the coming months.
Borrell also addressed the recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) rulings regarding the EU-Morocco fisheries and agricultural agreements, underscoring that the EU remains committed to its close relationship with Morocco. He referred to the joint statement issued alongside the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to preserving and strengthening its ties with Morocco across various sectors.
The EU’s top diplomat reiterated the importance of the “pacta sunt servanda” principle, ensuring that agreements made between the two parties are honored and respected.
“In close collaboration with Morocco, the EU aims to continue nurturing and safeguarding this invaluable partnership in all areas,” Borrell concluded.
The reaffirmation of this strategic relationship comes as both parties seek to navigate new challenges and capitalize on the vast potential of their cooperation, reinforcing the deep-rooted ties between Morocco and the European Union.
