In a resounding display of solidarity, both Sierra Leone and the Commonwealth of Dominica have reiterated their unwavering support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity. The declarations came following high-level discussions held in Rabat, emphasizing the significance of Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territory, including the Moroccan Sahara.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, conveyed his country’s full support for Morocco’s sovereignty during talks with Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita. Minister Kabba emphasized Sierra Leone’s endorsement of Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the singular “credible, serious, and realistic” solution to the long-standing dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. This position was solidified by Sierra Leone’s participation in the Ministerial Conference in support of the autonomy initiative, held on January 15, 2021, in collaboration with the United States of America.
Echoing Sierra Leone’s sentiment, the Commonwealth of Dominica reaffirmed its unwavering backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity in a joint communiqué issued after discussions between Minister Bourita and Vince Henderson, Dominica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy. Minister Henderson commended Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, presented in 2007, as the sole credible and realistic resolution for addressing the Moroccan Sahara dispute. He underscored the importance of the United Nations as the primary framework for achieving a practical and lasting solution to regional disputes.
Both Sierra Leone and Dominica have demonstrated their support for Morocco through tangible actions. Sierra Leone’s decision to open a Consulate General in Dakhla in August 2021 and its active participation in international conferences underscore its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Morocco. Similarly, the Commonwealth of Dominica welcomed the establishment of an OECS Embassy in Rabat in October 2018 and a Consulate General in Dakhla in March 2022, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation between Morocco and the Eastern Caribbean States.
The joint declarations from Sierra Leone and the Commonwealth of Dominica underscore the growing international recognition of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. As diplomatic efforts continue to evolve, the unwavering support from these nations reinforces Morocco’s position on the global stage and strengthens its resolve to pursue peaceful and constructive solutions to regional challenges.
