Rabat, Morocco (MAP) – In a resounding affirmation of diplomatic solidarity, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, Nancy Tembo, reiterated her country’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco during her official visit to Rabat.
The declaration of support came following a bilateral meeting between Minister Nasser Bourita, overseeing Moroccan foreign affairs, and Minister Nancy Tembo, as they discussed crucial regional matters, particularly the Sahara dispute.
Malawi’s commitment to the territorial integrity of Morocco aligns with the principles of respecting established borders and recognizing the historical and cultural ties that bind nations. In a joint statement issued after the meeting, both ministers emphasized their countries’ dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering cooperation in the pursuit of regional stability.
Importantly, Malawi reaffirmed its backing of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a political, realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute. Acknowledging the importance of international cooperation, Malawi underscored the need for the United Nations to play a central role in facilitating dialogue and negotiations among the involved parties.
In a significant gesture of support, Malawi reaffirmed its constant endorsement of the Autonomy Initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco. The Autonomy Initiative has long been regarded by the international community as the sole credible and realistic solution to the Sahara dispute. Malawi’s steadfast support for this initiative aligns with a growing global consensus recognizing the initiative’s potential to bring about a just and lasting resolution to the complex regional issue.
As part of her official visit to Morocco from December 17-21, Minister Nancy Tembo announced the inauguration of Malawi’s Embassy in Rabat and the operationalization of its General Consulate in Laayoune. This move not only signifies the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two nations but also emphasizes Malawi’s commitment to active engagement in the region.
Furthermore, Minister Tembo expressed her intention to visit the southern provinces, providing an opportunity to witness firsthand the economic and social progress in the region. The visit is also a chance to observe the political and democratic dynamics that have been underway, showcasing the commitment of the Kingdom to the development and well-being of its southern provinces.
The visit holds additional significance as it aims to explore the progress made in implementing the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, initiated in 2015 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Malawi’s diplomatic mission serves as a bridge for mutual understanding and collaboration, contributing to the ongoing dialogue for regional stability and prosperity.
In conclusion, Malawi’s reaffirmation of support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Autonomy Initiative underscores the importance of international cooperation and dialogue in resolving complex regional disputes. The diplomatic ties between Malawi and Morocco are poised to strengthen further, fostering collaboration for the collective well-being of the nations involved.
