Lisbon, October 13, 2023
In an essential step towards their joint bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the presidents of the football federations of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain convened in Lisbon on Wednesday morning. This summit, a remarkable milestone in the collaboration between the three nations, brought together Fernando Gomes (Portuguese Football Federation), Fouzi Lekjaa (Royal Moroccan Football Federation), and Pedro Rocha (Royal Spanish Football Federation). Their discussions continued to lay the groundwork for what aims to be the most exceptional World Cup in history, bridging two continents.
While this was the second meeting of the presidents of the three football associations, it was the first following FIFA’s decision on the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup. The meeting took place at Cidade do Futebol, the headquarters of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
During this gathering, the leaders decided to submit the letter of intent to host the 2030 World Cup on October 28, thereby fulfilling a crucial requirement in the bid process. This submission marks the first formal step in their joint candidacy and underscores the unwavering commitment of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to hosting a successful World Cup.
This significant moment is scheduled to take place in Rabat, and it will be followed by a press conference in which the presidents of the three federations will participate. This will be a moment to showcase the shared enthusiasm and unity of the three countries to bring the 2030 World Cup to their nations.
Simultaneously, the 2030 World Cup bid committee continued its work. On the same Wednesday in Madrid, they held another follow-up meeting for the project. These efforts demonstrate the determination and diligence of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain as they work towards their common goal of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
