Rabat, 09/07/2023 (MAP) – Joshua Harris, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for North Africa at the U.S. Department of State, reaffirmed on Thursday the United States’ support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara region, describing it as “serious, credible, and realistic.”
In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Rabat following his meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Harris emphasized, “The United States continues to view Morocco’s autonomy plan as serious, credible, and realistic.”
Accompanied by Puneet Talwar, the U.S. Ambassador to Morocco, Joshua Harris also “reiterated the deep and historic partnership between the United States and Morocco.”
Harris, whose visit to Rabat marks the conclusion of a regional tour encompassing Morocco and Algeria, highlighted the United States’ appreciation for Morocco’s pivotal efforts in addressing a broad range of regional and global challenges. These efforts include combating instability in the Sahel region, supporting Libyan elections, and advancing equitable measures for freedom, security, and prosperity for both Israelis and Palestinians.
