Montreal, August 30 (TNA) – The Superior Court of Canada, situated in Montreal, has delivered a verdict on July 27, 2023, finding Zakaria Moumni guilty. The ruling mandates Z. Moumni to provide $30,000 Canadian dollars in compensation to Mr. Rachid Najahi, the Managing Director of Groupe Atlas Media, as restitution for baseless public statements that caused harm.
The origin of this case traces back to the events of the 7th Fête marocaine de Montréal held on July 29, 2022, organized by Najahi and Groupe Atlas Media. Zakaria Moumni had disrupted the event by making derogatory comments about the attendees and participants of Moroccan descent.
Moumni had accused Rachid Najahi of being a “paid operative” for the Moroccan government and alleged that the Moroccan Festival was a government-funded propaganda effort. However, it was proven in court that the Moroccan Festival is financially independent and has never received any form of institutional or state funding.
The verdict issued by the Superior Court of Canada has mandated Zakaria Moumni to pay Rachid Najahi $20,000 for tarnishing his reputation and an additional $10,000 as punitive damages. The ruling emphasizes the significance of truthfulness and accountability when disseminating information to the public.
Rachid Najahi commented, “This decision upholds the rights and reputations of individuals.” Additionally, Zakaria Moumni faced allegations of physically assaulting three participants during the Moroccan Festival.
